My voyage as a Photographer - Part 2

My voyage as a Photographer - Part 2
From Dalma’s personal journal

After years of taking photos whenever I had the chance, I reached a point where I knew that if I really wanted to improve, I needed to take photography more seriously.

In 2009, I bought my first DSLR camera. I still remember that day vividly. I spent hours standing in a queue outside an electronics store, waiting for the doors to open. I was determined to get my hands on the camera I had been dreaming about.

It was a Canon 1000D with an 18–55mm lens.

To many people, it might have seemed like just another camera. To me, it was the beginning of a new chapter.

I was incredibly excited and full of plans. I wanted to learn everything I could, so I took my camera everywhere. Family gatherings, walks through the city, holidays, weekends away—every opportunity became a chance to practice. I photographed my family, my pets, beautiful landscapes, and the places I visited. I experimented with different subjects, different light, and different perspectives.

Every click of the shutter taught me something new.

Yet despite all the excitement, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was still missing.

I could see that my photographs were improving, but I also realized that simply owning a better camera wasn't enough. The images I envisioned in my mind still didn't always match the ones I captured. I needed more than equipment—I needed knowledge.

Then one day, everything changed.

I saw the photos of one of my ex-classmates from the university one day. They immediately caught my attention. There was something different about them. They weren't just technically good—they told stories, played with light, and had emotion.

I asked her where she had learned to create images like that.

She told me about a photography school that offered a Creative Photography course.

I didn't hesitate.

I enrolled almost immediately.

Looking back, that decision became one of the most important turning points in my photography voyage. It was there that my passion finally met the knowledge, guidance, and inspiration I had been searching for. For the first time, I began to understand not only how to use a camera, but how to truly see a photograph before pressing the shutter.

The camera had opened the door.

The photography school showed me how to walk through it.

And that is where I'll pause this chapter of my story.

In the next blog, I'll share what happened during those photography classes, how they transformed the way I see the world, and how they shaped the photographer I would eventually become.
